Mechanics Wiki

About Mechanics

Mechanics describe the fundamental systems that determine how players function in The Forge. They define how you move, fight, defend, and manage stamina during encounters with enemies. Understanding these systems is essential for surviving encounters with enemies and bosses. Master these systems to maximize your effectiveness in battle.

Offense

Light and Heavy attacks form the foundation of combat. Choose the right attack for each situation.

Defense

Blocking reduces damage, while perfectly timed parries stun enemies and open them up for counters.

Stamina

Manage your stamina carefully - running out at the wrong time can leave you vulnerable.

Combat State

Being "in combat" affects stamina drain and certain abilities. Know when you're flagged.

Combat Mechanics

Light Attacks
Fast M1 Strikes

Light attacks are fast M1 strikes performed with Weapons. They form the basic foundation of most combat interactions and are ideal for safely poking enemies or finishing low-health targets.

Use light attacks when you need quick, safe damage output. They have short recovery times, allowing you to dodge or block quickly after attacking.

Heavy Attacks
Powerful M1 Strikes

Heavy attacks are slower but stronger M1 strikes performed with Weapons. They have longer wind-up times but deal noticeably higher damage.

Best used when enemies are staggered, unaware, or locked in an animation. The extra damage is worth the risk when you have a clear opening.

Stamina
Resource Management

Players have a limited pool of stamina that is consumed when dashing, sprinting during combat, and blocking. Managing stamina is crucial - running out at the wrong time can leave you unable to dodge or defend.

Stamina regenerates over time when not being used. Plan your movements and attacks to ensure you always have enough stamina for emergencies.

Combat State
Combat Flag System

Players enter combat after taking damage or attacking an enemy. While in combat, stamina drains faster when dashing or sprinting, and certain effects may only apply while you are flagged as "in combat".

The combat state wears off after a period of not engaging with enemies. Be aware of when you're flagged to manage your resources effectively.

Blocking & Parrying
Defensive Techniques

Players can block to lessen incoming damage. Blocking consumes stamina but significantly reduces the damage you take from enemy attacks.

If the block is timed precisely as a hit lands, it becomes a parry, briefly stunning the enemy and opening them up for a punish or heavy counter-attack. Mastering the parry timing is key to high-level play.

Combat Tips

Attack Wisely

Use light attacks for safe pokes and heavy attacks when enemies are vulnerable or staggered. Don't overcommit to combos.

Manage Stamina

Never let your stamina fully deplete. Always keep enough to dodge or block in emergencies.

Practice Parrying

Learn enemy attack patterns to time your parries. A successful parry creates huge damage windows.
